We found that students these days are interested in doing something different and parents also want to follow the hearts of their wards. Young adults are fascinated by non-conventional courses which are job-oriented involving skills, creativity and aptitude.

With this idea in mind, we at Education Master took a tour of good colleges at NCR and came up with a college which offers these upcoming and interesting courses and asked a few questions to the HOD of the Fashion design and fine arts department of FMG GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS an upcoming college in NCR..

Here are the excerpts. This first part of our questionnaire contains information on fashion design and the next will be on fine arts and visual communication.

1) What is Fashion Designing?

Fashion design is the art of the application of design and aesthetics to clothing and accessories. Fashion design is influenced by cultural and social factors, and has varied over time and place. It is one of the most lucrative, appealing, glamorous and exciting career options in today’s world.

If one has a penchant for creativity, style and originality, a career in fashion designing is the one tailor for you. If one creates magic with colours, shapes and designs, then just obtain a professional degree to begin a successful career in the exciting world of fashion designing.

2) Why do students opt for Fashion Designing as a Career?

Textile and Apparel industry is the second largest employer in India employing more than 4 million people. India is the fourth largest apparel supplier to the world. The retail industry is growing at the rate of 25% in the last 3 years. Industry has exhibited good rate of growth over the last decade. Hence, the job opportunities are comparatively higher in fashion and apparel design and a high pay package to the talented people is expected.

3) What are the Career Prospects in Fashion Design?

Fashion designing is a demanding profession. The long working hours during college prepare one for the long working hours as a professional. Fashion design is not only restricted to dress designing but it is a vast gamut of professions that include jewelry or accessory designing. From creative designing to management to sales, fashion designing today has a scope in almost every field. Career options can include any of the following –

4) What is the Eligibility for Fashion Design Course?

For undergraduate program in fashion designing, 10+2 with a minimum of 50% from any recognized board of education is required. UPSEE conducts entrance examinations for the course and allots students after counseling. Relaxation in percentage of marks is applicable as per Government norms.
5) What criteria should an individual consider before opting for Fashion design?

In Fashion designing both degree and diploma courses are available but one should always opt for a degree course. The course should be regular and not part time as it is primarily a practical based course. The course should be affiliated to a recognized university and should not be a distance learning program.

6) Why join FMG Group of Institutions?

8) How are students evaluated in the regular programs?

Continuous evaluation and assessment is undertaken throughout the semester by way of assignments, projects, internships and presentations. Juries comprising academicians and industry professionals assess students’ work and capabilities. The aim is to closely monitor students’ evolution as competent professionals and provide critical feedback to students on their performance and development from time to time.

9) What are the facilities provided on campus in terms of services to the students?

Students are provided with library, resource center, well equipped labs (garment construction lab, pattern making lab, weaving lab, dyeing and printing lab, language lab, photography studio, computer aided design lab) hostel facility, canteen, sports zone, internet access, transportation facility etc.

10) What are the skills required to pursue fashion designing?

Creativity, self-belief and ability to do hard work !!
